#3 The Creation

Moses 1:27-42; 2-3
I need 6 Volunteers-They are each going to be playing a version of pictionary. Each person will be given a piece of paper with an item to be sculpted out of play-doh we have to guess what part or day their item represents. While discussing each period or “day” we are going to discuss why these things were created for us individually. Moses 1:39 All things were created for us individually why? to bring about our eternal life and immortality. So how can these creations do this for us? We will discuss that with each time period and what they represent

I also want you to remember who it was that created everything. Moses 2:1 Eloheim created them through His Son Jesus Christ. Remember the whole Divine Vestiture (Christ having authority from Eloheim to do and say everything in His name) thing.
Also remember this Moses 3:5 that everything before it was created physically was created spiritually. Every thing that is on the earth today-everything from plants and animals to technology was first created there and brought here.

1st-(Moses 2:3-5) light and dark (get 2 colors of playdoh 1 dark one light and separate them
Light and dark-when I thought about this one I started learned more about this one by thinking symbolically. What does light versus dark represent to us spiritually? Think about Christ and how He is the light of the world; light brings us truth, knowledge, love, purity etc. Darkness is things that could perhaps hinder our progress or make us stumble, things that will take us further away from the Savior and our eternal purpose.

2nd-(Moses 2:6-8) Heavens and water separated (make water and heavens) If we look in the footnote of 8a we read that the heavens are the atmosphere and beyond; referring to the dwelling place of God. We had to have a separate place from God. We had to have a place where we could grow, live and learn. Interesting to me that the mere elements of water are the things that separate us from God; I’m sure there is more to it but I learned a lot just by pondering that one thought. Thoughts I can’t back up scripturally yet, but interesting thoughts. So He made water on the earth; what is water known for symbolically? Baptism, Christ’s blood; the only way we can return is through baptism and Christ’s blood? Is that true? Water has been created for us to physically as well as spiritually be able to return to live with God.

3rd-(Moses 2:9-12) Water versus Land; also on the land were created grasses, fruits trees, flowers etc. (Make a plant, tree, grass, etc.)
V12 says every herb yielding seed after his kind, and the tree yielding fruit…after his kind. This reminds us that whatever kind of seed we plant we will grow. If we plant the tree of negativity and bitterness, that is what we will get in return. If we plant the seeds of faith and optimism we will get more of the same. We know of many different lessons about seeds in our scriptures and from our prophets. Seeds are dominated by us (Moses 2:28) meaning “what we will reap we will sow”, we can learned from seeds and plants and will continue to do so. We can also use these plants and herbs physically by eating them, and making medicines from them etc.

4th-(Moses 2:14-19) creative period of the Firmaments in the heavens (sun, moon, stars) He tells us straight out what they are for in v14 “let them be for signs, and for seasons, and for days” He already created light He put the sun, moon, and stars in the sky specifically for us to know the signs of the times, to help us keep track of the time that has past. Do these things bring us closer to Him then? If we are constantly aware of the time and the signs, prophesied we can know to hold on a little longer, the time is almost come for Him to return to us. Also we can look to them physically; just like we talked about last week, we can learn about the planets, how stars change from red to blue to white (or however the order goes) and how that is symbolic of how we too can progress and become brighter and closer to the Father.

5th-(Moses 2:20-23) this period represents the creation of the birds in the air and creatures in the sea (make bird, fish, etc.) Spiritually the birds help us to always look to the sky; into the heavens and remember God. The creatures in the sea to help us know that god is below as well as above us; showing His grandeur. We have someone in our class who is an avid bird watcher. They know many things about many birds and I have asked if she would share with us the many fascinating things she has learned from birds, just by watching them and recognizing their habits. As she speaks think of all the symbolic things we can learn from these creations. Some that I thought of is how birds have an inborn trait that brings them back to the same place to breed their families. They have patterns of always returning to their birth place. They teach their young to fly and then let them go on their own.
They are constantly teaching us about the Plan of Salvation aren’t they?
There is a wonderful lesson that Sister Mayes told the YW in their evening of excellence of a whale family. The mother whale is side by side teaching her young calf how to swim, and find food, learning to live to its full capabilities. Meanwhile the father whale is swimming in big full circles around the mother and calf watching for predators and protecting them. They know what the Family a Proclamation is all about don’t they? Can we learn from them?

6th-(Moses 2:24-31) we know that all mammals including us were created in this period. (Make a mammal-bear, camel, deer, elephant etc.)
One thing I thought about where mammals are concerned is what we can learn from their bodies and how they were built. I read a book lately where I learned quite a bit about a camel. I want to tell you some of the things I have learned from a camel, which can parallel what we can learn about our own bodies. This book started off talking about the straw that broke the camels back and how we worry so much about what burdens are being put on the camels back that we are ignoring the camel itself. So here are the camel’s capabilities: Camels are uniquely adapted for their dry desert environment. Camels can also exist on bones, seeds, and thorny shrubs. Camels can go for days without drinking water. Their bodies are equipped to store water, that lovely life sustaining water in their humps. They can consume up to 21 gallons in 10 minutes. Their blood cells can expand to 250 % of their normal size to retain this water. Ours can expand to 100% of their size before they burst and drown us, but camels are cool like that. When a camels water is depleted their bodies tell them so by having their hump slump. A Camel retains water so efficiently that its feces can be used for fuel the minute they hit the ground. When a Camel wants to cool itself in the desert sun, it will actually lay against other camels; as their bodies touch, their body temperatures drop. Camels have feet that spread snowshoe-style to keep them from sinking in the sand. They develop leathery patches of skin on their knees to counteract the abrasive sand. Their eyes are developed in such a way that they can still make it through some rough sand storms.
Now after listening to all that can you name some things we can learn about our own bodies that we can learn from camels. Our bodies are capable of adapting to any climate we are put in. (including trials) Our bodies are self-sustaining. Our bodies have been given everything to heal itself from cuts, broken bones, sicknesses; as well as spiritual hurts-we have been given a strong spirit for those things. We need each other to survive the heat of life and the struggles we have to get through. Everything body part the camel has helps him with his load including his feet. Our body parts play different roles when we need them to. We can learn many things from other mammals can’t we?

Another thing, all animals have a mate, a counter-part someone with whom they can walk through life together with. Have a family with, learn from, and work together towards a great cause. (Moses 3: 20-25) The Lord gave us help meets- someone with whom to go through life with. We learn from each other, we help each other, we love each other. For those who don’t have a spouse yet, these scriptures should bring you peace, because he created all things, everyone will have a chance to have a spouse. You will have a chance to meet someone with whom you can grow with.

The creative periods are written here for our good. The Lord is telling us that all we need to do to know of His presence in our lives, is to look around, learn from all the things He has created to enhance our own progress to eternal life and living with the Father. All things are created for our good, but only if we open our hearts and minds and learn from them in the name of Jesus Christ Amen.
